If you’ve been paying attention to the small business buzz, you’ve probably heard everyone talking about email newsletters. And for good reason! Social media is borrowed land — one algorithm tweak, policy change, account shutdown, or even a hack (!) can wipe out your entire audience, all of your content, and entire marketing strategy overnight.

But your email list? That’s yours. It’s a direct line to the people who actually want to hear from you.

Starting a newsletter might seem like a small step, but it’s one of the most powerful moves you can make to grow your business in 2025.

🌟 Why Email Marketing Wins

  • Higher ROI: I’ve posted products on Instagram and maybe (if I’m lucky) made a sale or two. But when I share those same products in my newsletter? I have often sold out within hours.

  • Quality Engagement: Your subscribers want to hear from you. They’re not just passive scrollers; they’re your most engaged audience.

🌱 How to Start Growing Your List

  • Start collecting emails! Put out a sign-up sheet at your next in-person event.

  • Use your POS system. If your POS system has the option, toggle on the email collection feature and set it up.

  • Start small. Even if it’s just 10 friends and family members, that’s the perfect place to begin. These are your ride-or-die fans—they want to support you!

🛠️ Choosing the Right Platform

Picking an email platform can feel overwhelming, but you can go to YouTube and watch a few tutorials on a platform. If a platform has too many bells and whistles? Skip it! If it feels clunky? Next! If you can’t customize it how you want? Keep looking!

Many website providers already have built-in or integrated email marketing platforms, which can simplify your decision. And remember, you’re not stuck. If you don’t like your platform, just export your list and switch. No biggie.

🔄 Find Your Consistency

What’s a realistic schedule for you? Monthly, bi-monthly, or weekly? Whatever you choose, consistency is key!

When I first started my newsletter, I struggled with staying consistent and knowing what to say—just like many small business owners. Over time, it grew into something I’m truly proud of. Now, it’s a space where I connect with my audience, share behind-the-scenes moments, and offer updates on my work.

But getting there? That took a system...

📖 The 12-Month Newsletter Planning Workbook

That’s why I created this planner — to help small business owners who feel stuck or overwhelmed with newsletters. It’s the exact system I use to plan, draft, and send emails consistently every month.

Here’s how it works:

  •  It starts with a 12 month glance as place to drop down ideas, themes, and notes as they come to you.

  •  Each month gets its own page to expand those ideas, themes, and notes, and start organizing your thoughts.

  • These Dedicated worksheets help refine those ideas or brainstorm new ones.

  • The guided prompts walk you through key elements like a personal note, behind-the-scenes updates, and product or service highlights.

You don’t have to fill in every section. Just start with what feels right and watch your newsletters evolve into something natural and engaging.

Your subscribers want to hear from you—this planner is here to help you show up consistently and confidently.

Make It Happen: Schedule It

  • Add a recurring event to your calendar: "Send your newsletter"

  • Set a reminder one week (two weeks?) prior to start drafting.

That’ll key you into reviewing your notes in your planner guide to curate it into a newsletter.
