ALASKA EVER AFTER
The owners of Alaska Ever After reached out for a custom illustration to go with their Alaska Fireweed Goddess idea.
Deliverables:
Digital Illustration
Garment & Color Management
Outcome:
Custom illustration design for a zip up hoodie
Exploration
Alaska Ever After wanted to launch a new design based on their idea of an "Alaska Fireweed Goddess." They wanted to feature the iconic fireweed flower, but didn't have any specific idea other than that.
I proposed incorporating a female face to represent the "goddess" element, surrounded by the fireweed florals in an ambiguous shape around the face.
We realized that the fireweed is most recognizable as a stalk, so we explored that in round 2, framing the face within the stalks, flowers and foliage of the Alaskan fireweed.
Color + Budget Considerations
Once we were happy with the overall design, we then explored a few options based on color.
Knowing that this design would be screen printed on a purple zip up hoodie, I put the designs on some mock up images to help convey how the design may look when printed. We explored a one color print, but ultimately went with a two color print to allow the centers of the flowers to pop.
The Outcome
The artwork was completed on time, and delivered in a screen-print-ready file complete with Pantone color selection. The concept is open to allow us to create a full Alaska Wildflower collection, too.
More exciting, both Miss America Teen Alaska and Miss America Alaska will be wearing the hoodie around Anchorage and for preliminaries when they go to compete at the pageant.
"You were great to work with and got our design done in the time that was promised. I think the ideas that you brought to the table along with the ones that we came up with made the design more than we could have hoped for. I can't wait to do the next two with you! :)"
