Rove Co.

Rove Co., an outdoor company dedicated to fostering community, confidence, and education in the wilderness, approached me to create a unique and impactful design for screen printing on garments. The goal was to produce a visually striking illustration that embodied Rove Co.'s mission while keeping production costs economical.

Deliverables:

1-color Illustration

3-color illustration

Wordmark

Project Objectives
  • Design an eye-catching illustration. To reduce screen printing costs, the artwork needed to have a single color option while still capturing the essence of the brand. A simple word mark was also created for a pocket or sleeve accent.

  • Incorporate the Alaskan wilderness. The illustration needed to reflect Rove Co.'s focus on making the Alaskan outdoors more accessible and welcoming to all.

  • Ensure brand alignment. The design had to resonate with Rove Co.'s values of community, education, and confidence in the outdoors.

Design Process

The concept revolved around the phrase "Oh Hike Yeah," a playful yet empowering slogan that encapsulates the spirit of outdoor adventure.

It started with the word mark, adding spruce tree elements to the tall letters of "hike". We made a detailed and a simplified version of this lettering graphic, for usage across all applications, from screen printing to embroidery or a leather patch stamp.

For the illustrated version, I featuring Denali, Alaska’s iconic mountain, set within a circle of sun rays. This imagery was chosen to symbolize both the grandeur of the Alaskan wilderness and the welcoming, inclusive nature of Rove Co.

I carefully crafted the design to maintain strong visual impact through the use of bold lines and negative space. The circular composition not only framed the mountain landscape but also created a cohesive and balanced design, ideal for screen printing on garments.

The Outcome

The final design was launched on hoodies as part of Rove Co.’s apparel line and has been well received by the community. The one-color illustration not only met the budget requirements but also successfully captured the essence of Rove Co.'s mission—making the outdoors more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

This project exemplifies how thoughtful design, paired with a clear understanding of the client’s goals, can result in a product that both resonates with the target audience and adheres to practical constraints.
